About Jazz Band
Under the direction of Walter J. Suggs, the Jazz Band at Berry Academy is designed to teach basic and advanced fundamentals of string, wind, brass, and percussion instruments. The ensemble and solo activities are designed to develop elements of musicianship including tone production, technical skills, intonation, music reading skills, listening skills, analyzing music and music history.
Jazz Band Student Expectations
Band/ensemble provides students with the opportunity of learning music by applying their knowledge of music theory in a variety of exciting performance opportunities. Individual performance opportunities include solos and All-district band. As band/ensemble is a competitive ensemble, occasionally after school rehearsals are necessary for performances. Participation in all performances are necessary and required to successfully complete this course.
